Fungicide Application

Fungi are parasitic plants that lack the chlorophyll green plants use to convert sunlight and oxygen to food. Without  this critical pigment they must invade a host plant to obtain their nutrients, probing root-like tendrils into the living tissue of chlorophyll-producing plants.

A leading cause of plant disease in the St. Louis landscape, fungi can be identified by the spots or discoloration they leave on plant foliage, stems or fruit. Rusts for example produce orange, brown or yellow blotches on leaves, while powdery mildew, another fungus common in St. Louis, is characterized by its white, cottony appearance.

the spread of fungi can be arrested and often eradicated if it is caught in the early stages and treated with a foliar fungicide. But they reproduce rapidly through tiny wind borne and insect-carried spores, many of which attack a wide array of plants. So a preventive treatment to the plants most at risk is the safest approach.

As part of O'Hara Landscaping's plant healthcare program, your professional horticulturalists will routinely survey your landscaping and identify and treat vulnerable and affected plants to protect your landscaping investment from fungal diseases.
